Science
Fiction Show Schedules
Normally, June ushers in summer reruns,
however, this year we've got some new science fiction heating up the long
nights. The Invisible Man debuts on June 9 and Stargate has a new
episode on June 30. But it isn't all good news on the sci-fi front - La Femme
Nakita (a KathE favorite) and Total Recall aren't scheduled to
return. One of my favorites, Farscape is on the ropes and might disappear
into a wormhole this year. On a positive last note, there are some interesting
new shows on the fall lineup, I'll keep you posted as they firm up. If there are
any shows you'd like to see added to our schedule list, drop
me an email.

Curious
About Your Favorite Star?
Here's a web secret that most magazine publishers and convention promoters
use. When you want info on a star or a movie - one of the best sources is The
Internet Movie Database. You can search for upcoming, current and past movies by
title, star, director and more. Actors? Sure! Search by name and it will lead
you to their biography, agent, photos and more.
For example: I conducted a quick
search on KathE's favorite actor, Michael Ironside and found he'll be in the
following TV shows this week - Question of Privilege (1999), Captive (1998),
Starship Troopers (1997), Guncrazy (1992), Neon City (1992), Total Recall
(1990), Extreme Prejudice (1987), Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling (1986), Top
Gun (1986), and High-Ballin' (1978).

Distant
Corners.com
The mix of Flash animation with radio-style story telling lends itself well to
the new concept of online comic books. Distant Corners.com is best described as
an online graphic radio show. The site is divided into sections offering
different kinds of content. Wacked News contains teaser headlines from,
one would presume, real news with a weird slant. Original Sins consists
(at launch) of three different storylines titled: Destination Unknown, a
sort of Lesbian Roadtrip; Riding The Clutch, a story about a
corporate-type who spends a weekend at a paintball tournament where all the
characters blink way to much; and Santarella P.I. which isn't up as of
this writing, but is presumably a private detective series. Other sections at
the site include a chat room and simple online Java games.
Online comic books are often stranger than their printed cousins. Without the burden of censor controls and content filtering, they often aren't for the weak-hearted. Unfortunately, they sometimes run long on curse words and short on interesting storytelling. DistantCorners.com is a stretch of that bumpy road, but shows promise for itself and the genre. Meet
The New Anakin
Imagine what it would be like to be selected as the new star of the most
successful movie/toy-selling franchise in history. Try to think about what your
life would be like from the moment the announcement was made. Those are the
kinds of questions Hayden Christensen, the new Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars
Episodes 2 & 3 is getting the answers to right now.
He was born in Vancouver B.C. on April, 19th 1981. He's appeared in a few TV shows, most recently Fox's Higher Ground. He's also in the soon-to-be-released The Virgin Suicides movie. He's 6'1", likes lots of sports and plays the piano. It's a good bet he'll be learning to wield a light saber pretty good real soon - the filming for the movie begins next month. For more info on Episode II and Hayden, visit the Star Wars website.

Help
The Movie Business!
AMC, United Artists and Mann are on the ropes. It's a very tough time in the
movie biz. Every major chain claims that film companies are sucking them dry.
Moviegoers love the new stadium seating theaters, but with the cost of putting
them up and liquidating the old ones as they do it, is threatening the financial
collapse of the exhibitors.
Could you do better? Well, here's
your chance to prove it! There's a new game on the web called Movie Boss. You
run the theater. You book the movies. You decide to upgrade the theater. If you
can make it work, you could influence the future of the movie business.

test their lightsaber skills, and Star Wars face-painting. There will also be a

Marina
and Dwight on Voyager
Marina Sirtis and Dwight Shultz will be appearing on Voyager this week. Be sure
you don't miss it. The episode is titled Life Line and has Troi and
Barclay helping the Voyager EMH save Dr. Zimmerman's life. If you don't know a
lot about Star Trek and Voyager, this episode could be a little confusing.
Robert Picardo plays two roles that share the same body - isn't Star Trek great?

The
Lathe of Heaven Returns!
Imagine a World shaped by your dreams.
Two decades after it first enthralled America, one of the most popular and innovative public television productions ever created will return to the airwaves in a special 20th Anniversary broadcast.
The Lathe of Heaven is a two-hour film about a man whose dreams reshape reality. In addition to the rebroadcast, an exclusive new interview by journalist Bill Moyers with Ursula K. Le Guin, the acclaimed author of the best-selling 1971 science fiction novel upon which the film was based, will also be shown. The film has been digitally re-mastered for this encore presentation on June 1, 2000 (check local listings for air time).
I remember reading the book and then being blown-away by the movie when I saw it in 1980. Since then, the movie has become the most requested program in the history of the public television. In 1998, Entertainment Weekly named it one of the top 100 greatest works of science fiction, saying, "it's rarely been seen since its original telecast - which only adds to its mystique." The film was not seen due to legal hassles with the rights to the film. Thank heavens they have been solved.
The movie should be available on VHS and DVD after the broadcast. Probably as one of those "premium" prizes that PBS shamelessly hustles during their pledge drives. I'll pay for it, and I hope you'll take the time to see it..

We did it! Lucasfilm has announced that work is currently underway to bring Star

some worthy titles in the pipeline, including: Bicentennial Man, The
Robocop Trilogy, and even a title called Safe House with Patrick
Stewart that slipped past my radar.
