Starfest 2001Surprise Guest Coming To Starfest!
He's big, he's really big.

We are happy to announce that one of the stars of 2001: A Space Odyssey will be making a special appearance at Starfest 2001 and he'll be available for photos. Unfortunately, he will not be signing autographs. Who is it? It's a surprise.

GracelandAnd Now For Something Completely Different...
The intrepid Starland crew just returned from a vacation to Florida. On our way back, we detoured to Memphis to visit Graceland.
I'd always been curious about the place and the folklore it has generated over the years. Why does Graceland exist? There isn't a Beatleland or Sinatraland. What is it about Elvis Presley that makes his home so interesting to the hundreds of thousands of people visit it every year? I'm not sure I learned the answer to that question, but I now have a much deeper appreciation for his accomplishments and the kind of guy he was.

As we walked through rooms and halls covered with gold and platinum records, it was hard not to be impressed with his musical talent. But it is not his musical records that impress you most. It is the stories about his kindness to his family, friends, and just about everyone he met that you take with you from Graceland. Elvis was a guy with grace. He left his mark on the World and left it a better place too.

True!True Review by Michael Vance
This comic is sort of a 'Believe It Or Not' comic of Mad Magazine proportions. Also reviewed, in mini form, is The Royals. This was actually last week's review, but due to my programming incompetence, it never appeared in the headlines.

The CoffinThe Coffin Stirs
"I can honestly say that I have never read a comic book quite like The Coffin. I mean that in a good way." So writes Mark Allen in this week's comic book review. The comic depicts the a story of a scientist
who develops a body suit, or "coffin", that is so impermeable it can actually contain a human soul.  Mark finds the moral contemplation and issues raised fascinating and rare.

Voyager SchematicYour Help Is Needed
In January UPN and Paramount announced that they were going to produce a Two-Hour Final Journey & Retrospective for Star Trek: Voyager. The hour-long special was to feature highlights from Voyager's 172 episodes, interviews and recollections from the cast, plus personal video shot over the past several months as the team prepared for the end of the series.

Now UPN and Paramount have announced that they've canceled the show. We can't let them send Voyager off with only a whimper. Since most of the work for the special is complete, it's plausible that your quick letters to UPN and Paramount could succeed in convincing them to air the retrospective and give the series the sendoff it deserves. Because letters and postcards carry much more weight than emails, we ask that you send your pleas on paper. Please be brief and to the point.

Boba Fett?Boba Fett Unveiled?
On display at the New York Toy Fair next week, will be prototypes of many of the figures planned for Star Wars II. The photo at the left is one that looks very similar to a certain Boba Fett dude we all love. They don't come right out and say his name, but the fans will know which bounty hunter this guy is. You can see an advance peek at the figures at the Star Wars website.

In the past Starwars.com has been scooped by people sneaking into Toy Fair with spycams. I guess they decided that if the pictures were going to get posted anyway, they might as well be good shots. I must say, Lucasfilm has done a very commendable job in releasing lots of information about the new movie. It is inevitable that people are going to report on it whether it's rumors or fact. By releasing lots of production news and still keeping the plot details secret, they have a reasonable chance of satiating people's hunger for information between the movies.

Want a suggestion Lucasfilm? Let the toy manufacturers release the toys in December. It's a win-win situation. You get the publicity from the release (read lots of ads on TV and free press) and your licensees get to sell toys during the busy season when they have the best chance of making their way under Christmas trees.

PlanetaryPlanetary - A History of Planet Earth
Mark Allen really likes this story about an intriguing character, Elijah Snow, who has been part of the most exciting events in the World's last 100 years. Snow may be old, but he doesn't act it. He appears to be only 40, but has known the likes of Sherlock Holmes, the Invisible Man and Dracula. Furthermore, the art by John Cassaday sets the perfect mood for the series.
