Lots of people having a fun and freaky Friday! I've finally started posting our "Official" photos from Starfest. Jon Taylor delivered a CD full of shots from the show that I'll start loading to the site over the next few days. Jon's graciously offered to make 8x10 photo prints available to anyone who wants them for just $5.00 each. Frankly, that's pretty cheap considering the coordination and effort Jon will have to go through to make it for you. I've set up the photos for our shopping cart and no matter how many photos you want, we'll just charge you $5.00 for shipping per order to pay for postage and packaging (cardboard envelope). Click here to check them out! |
Cruise
Time Comes QuicklyHave some fun sailing the high-seas with the Stars! One of the greatest things about traveling to conventions throughout the '80s and 90's was getting to go on the Star Trek cruises. Starfest guest Stephen Austin just let me know about a cruise he's got coming up in the Caribbean called, interestingly enough, The Caribbean Comedy Cruise. Check it out. There are also two other cruise operators that we've worked with before that we can recommend: Seatrek and Cruise Trek they both have trips coming up soon. Just remember, if you wait until the weather turns cold, you'll usually end up paying more for your trip than if you book it in the summer. It's always great to escape the cold in the Tropics! |

Screening Tuesday, June 29th at the Westminster Prominade America is a vast country -- three thousand miles from end to end. But it¹s not the land that makes America so special -- it¹s the people. Filmmaker Louis Schwartzberg packed up his camera and hit the road, with a goal of capturing both the unparalleled beauty of the land and the incomparable sprit of the people. Through his movie, America¹s Heart and Soul, you¹ll have the chance to meet ordinary Americans with extraordinary stories. Louis¹s gift is his ability to connect with people, honestly capturing their values, dreams, and passion in an awe-inspiring journey that reveals the stories - unusual, captivating, inspiring and emotional - that make us into something more than a collection of individuals. America¹s Heart and Soul is a celebration of a nation told through the voices of its people. Click here to play for tickets to see the movie. This movie is rated PG. |

The Big-Screen images from Starfest 2004 The Main Events staff was tasked with keeping people entertained between events in our Main Events room at Starfest. One of the great ideas that Brooke, Barrie and John came up with was to show humorous slides on our big screens. From the positive response we've received, we'll just have to double their pay for next year. Before you start planning your next vacation guys, remember that two times zero is still zero. Kevin Atkins' stage shots from Starfest David Franklin was one a polite and cordial guest at Starfest. I'm sure a lot of fans were surprised that we had two Farscape guests at SF04. It just so happens that after we booked Lani Tupu for the show, his agent mentioned that David was also in the U.S. and would be willing to come to Denver as a guest as well. I was not aware of the extent of his resume when we booked him, but glad to add an additional guest to our lineup from what I considered one of the best SF shows in the last decade. No comic escapes the discerning gaze of Michael Vance and Mark Allen Valor - "...something like this makes me wish there was a law that required every comics fan to read a quota of classic Golden Age work." Felix the Cat: House of 1,000 Ha Ha's! - "...recommended for pre-literate and young kids for nice art and story and because he is fun." Styx Taxi: Pastrami for the Dead #1 - "Dialog and characterizations are believable, but there are some clumsy scene transitions that make readers work to suspend disbelief." |

No comic can escape the discerning gaze of Michael Vance and Mark Allen Daredevil, The Man Without Fear - "...a great introduction to Daredevil for new readers." More of the Kevin Atkins collection from Starfest Lani Tupu proved to be a very cordial guest at Starfest... one that wanted to do much more than just the usual Q&A from stage. He worked closely with our Main Events staff to demonstrate an actual looping session during his presentation. It was both informative and entertaining. One of those things that reminds you why it is always better to see your favorite actors live. It involved having a scene projected on the big screens in the Main Events room while Lani was simultaneously matching the dialog to the film. Thank you Lani for going that extra mile to make Starfest special. I personally got a big case of down-under home sickness just talking to him. Several years ago we used to used to produce Starfest conventions in Australia and hearing his accent made me realize how much I missed those annual trips to that land so far away. Michael Vance and Mark Allen weigh in on five comics in this week's reviews Conan, The Legend - "Cary Nord's artwork on Conan is possibly the best seen since the character's first comic incarnation..." Batman - "...some of the best material the title has enjoyed for the last couple of years." Young GODS and friends - "So is Smith's meandering, purple prose and stilted dialogue homage to Kirby or simply Smith at his best?" Pistolwhip: The Yellow Menace - "...some readers will find Kindt's work less than palatable." Castle:The Man of Cinder-Blocks - "This adventure is drenched in style and humor and deserves a slick package." |
