Animation Reviews, News and Interviews No comic escapes the discerning gaze of
Michael Vance and Mark Allen
About Ed's Terrestrials, Michael Vance gushes - "You'll be reminded of the best in animation as you read this well-drawn romp with Ed, who is probably eight or nine years old. The colors are vibrant and perfect for the minimalistic art. The visual storytelling is flawless." He's a bit less enthused about Pizzeria Kamikaze, for which he says - Pizzeria Kamikaze is recommended for adult readers who are tolerant of stories without resolutions.
Mark Allen takes a shot at a new comic titled The Damaged, which he says is well written and ably illustrated. He recommends it for those who enjoy science fiction and mystery. It is for all but the youngest readers. He then winds up reviewing the Captain Clockwork Special about a time-traveling family. Mark says - "Captain Clockwork is one of those projects which appear quite simple on the surface, but contain the pleasant surprise of complex characterization and motivations."

The film brings Miller's acclaimed graphic novel to life by combining live action with virtual backgrounds that capture his distinct vision of this ancient historic tale.

American Graffiti & West Side Story This week's Continental Flashback Series Movies - on the 3-story screen
at The Continental Theater, I-25 & Hampden - all seats just $5

In 1973 George Lucas made this period movie that launched several careers (including his own) and made Star Wars possible. It starred a very young Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard and introduced a guy named Harrison Ford to film audiences. Where where you in '62?
Saturday, March 3rd at 10am
Released in 1961, West Side Story is a musically extravagant retelling of Shakespeare's classic Romeo and Juliet. In spite of dated dialog, this movie is a must-see experience for either the incredible choreography by Jerome Robbins or the inspired music written by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein. You'll walk away from this movie humming one or more of its unforgettable songs.

Starfest Photo Albums While we are waiting for more Starfest news - let's take
a look at the happenings of Starfest's past
Uploading photos to our website just got a lot easier. I found a database program that does a great job cataloging our convention shots on the website. What used to be a real chore is going to be a lot easier from now on. It's so easy, I added the shots from 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 to the catalog. I like it so much, I might go ahead and add the shots from alot of our conventions past too.
One of the great features of this photo album is that it allows you to add your comments to the images. This could be a real help - by allowing us to document who is in the photos. Please take a look and add your comments where possible.

It's Time To Register! Even if you have signed up before
The Starland Registration Page has been updated and will now allow you to input your newsletter requests and correct your mailing address for our Starfest mailings. Sometime around the 1st of March, we will be sending out our first Starfest 2007 mailing and we'd like to get it to you.
Please, we really need your help, over the course of a year about 1/4 of you manage to move. Sending out a bunch of mailings to the joker that moved into your old apartment doesn't do either of us any good. Cubby is tired of getting calls from people that keep telling us they aren't getting the convention mailings.
The Number 23 Screening Tuesday, February 20th at 7pm
Colorado Cinemas, 3000 E 1st Ave, Denver
Walter Sparrow stumbles onto a fascinating book titled The Number 23. It’s a peculiar little story about an individual that becomes obsessed with the number “23” and its recurrence in his everyday life. As Walter reads the novel and sees the character surrendering himself to his own paranoia, he too begins to experience similar feelings. In fact with time, Walter begins to spot parallels between the book and the real life situations around him, much to the displeasure of his wife Agatha, who begins to worry about his irrational behavior. His confusion continues to escalate and he begins to believe that the novel is actually based on his own life. When he discovers the main character’s grisly demise in the book, he truly begins to panic. If the story is indeed based on Walter’s life, then he will have to find a way to prevent his own impending doom from ever taking place.
This movie is rated R. You must be at least 17 years of age to play for tickets.

We haven't been hiding in a cave - we've just been real busy here at Starland. There has been all-sorts of activity on the guest front and we are starting to get some of the groundwork done in preparation for the big weekend.
The links on the Starfest Menu are starting to work and you'll see a lot more information start to appear on the convention pages over the next couple of weeks. Feel free to browse around and give me some feedback on things that might not be working right.
Since the last convention we've moved our website to an Apache server and I've been slowly updating the code on our site to PHP. For those of you not fluent in HTML - that means we'll have more dynamic pages and features. To be honest, it's taken way to long for this old dog to learn some new tricks. I've now gotten the Starland Classifieds, our new Starland Catalog and our Message Board working right (all PHP driven).
I spent the past week working kinks out of our email system and now all the subscribe/unsubscibe newsletter functions are merged onto one Registration Page. Please, click on that link now and update your information. We hope you'll use the new form to update your email and mailing addresses. We expect to send out our first Starfest postcard mailing around the 1st of March and want to make sure you get a copy at your current mailing address. A lot of you really seem to move around between conventions and we'd like to save the time it takes to input the address changes that come back from the post office each year.
Now that the website seems to be working, I'm really looking forward to having more time to spend giving you more frequent Starfest updates!
