Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go! Speed Racer Poster Contest At Starfest
As part of the Warner Bros. presentation at noon on Saturday, the studio will be giving away an incredible linticular (3D) Speed Racer Poster. All you need to do to be eligible is make sure that you register at Starfest. You don't even have to buy a ticket to Starfest to register - just come on down to the Marriott DTC and fill out one of our registration cards to be eligible. Get Smart Panel At Starfest Saturday, April 19th, Main Events Room
Warner Bros. is planning a great event at Starfest to kick off our Saturday at Starfest! On hand to introduce some great footage from the much anticipated Get Smart feature film, Masi Oka (Heroes) and Nate Torrence (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), two of the actors in the film, will host a Q&A about the movie and their experiences working with Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson and Alan Arkin on the movie set.
Masi Oka has earned Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations for his role in the NBC hit ensemble drama “Heroes” as Hiro Nakamura, a Tokyo nonconformist computer/anime geek who develops a way to pierce the space-time continuum and move back in time through sheer willpower.
Concurrent with the feature release of Get Smart, Oka will also star with Nate Torrence in the companion DVD release Get Smarter, slated for a June 2008 release.
His additional feature film credits include memorable roles in Along Came Polly and Austin Powers in Goldmember.
On television, Oka has had recurring roles on Scrubs and Luis, and has guest-starred on the series Without a Trace, Joey, Reba, The Loop, All of Us, Still Standing, Will & Grace, Yes, Dear and Gilmore Girls.
With a background in improvisation, Oka has graced the stages of The Groundlings, ImprovOlympics, Second City and TheatreSports, and his improvisational expertise has
been showcased with guest appearances as various characters on Punk'd, Reno 911 and The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.
After graduating Brown University with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Theatre Arts minor, Oka pursued an acting career while taking his first job at George Lucas’ Oscar-winning special effects house Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). Today, despite his successful career as an actor, he continues to provide ILM with technology for groundbreaking effects for more than 30 films.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, Oka moved to Los Angeles at age six. He is fluent in Japanese and proficient in Spanish. He is the spokesperson for One Laptop Per Child, a charity dedicated to providing children around the world with new opportunities to explore, experiment and express themselves.
Nate Torrence began his career within the commercial industry, appearing in over 40 national and regional spots, most notably as David Spade’s sidekick Chubsy in the Capital One What’s in Your Wallet campaign.
Soon after, he began breaking into television with guest star appearances on several shows. including C.S.I., Malcolm In The Middle, How I Met Your Mother, Las Vegas, Ghost Whisperer and House, and, in 2006, landed the recurring role of Dylan Killington on NBC’s critically acclaimed Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
Torrence continues to perform sketch/improv shows in area venues including The Second City Studio Theater in Los Angeles.
He will soon be seen alongside Kate Hudson and Dane Cook in the feature comedy “My Best Friends Girl” and in a leading role in the romantic comedy “She’s Out of My League,” as well as the upcoming season of “Reno 911.”
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men Screening Acts 1 & 2 in Starfest Main Events Room

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men is an all-new three-part mini-series featuring many Trek alumni, with a cast that spans all 5 Star Trek TV series, as well as the Star Trek feature films. Directed by Tim Russ (Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager), it is being released on the Internet. However, with a little help from the producer, we've arrainged for you to see parts 1 and 2 on the big screens in the Starfest Main Events Room! This will really wet your appetite for the high-octane conclusion premiering soon.

Lance Hendrickson
Lance currently lives in St. Paul, MN. He has worked with Ben and Mike for the last few years on short films. When the idea came up to shoot a feature film, Ben struck on the idea for Summer School and Lance was on board. He is currently in the midst of producing Random Creatureface Films' next feature. Besides producing and having a supporting actor role, he wrote and directed the Cult sequence of the film Summer School.
Troy McCall
Troy was born and raised in Sartell, MN. He is currently in his senior year at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. For years, Troy has had a passion for cinematography and has been an acting DP for several student and independent films. Besides being the Director of Photography and having an acting role, he directed the Nazi sequence of the film Summer School.
Mike P. Nelson
Mike grew up in the Maple Grove, MN. He studied film at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and made his love of movies and monsters his life's work. His recent work includes the award-winning film, The G.I., amongst other short films. He is currently co-writing and plans to direct Random Creatureface Films' next feature. In addition to being the Director of Photography, Sound Designer, and the monster, he wrote and directed the Hillbilly sequence of the film Summer School.
Ben Trandem
Ben was born and raised in Minnesota. He hooked up with an old friend, Lance Hendrickson, and college film buddy, Mike Nelson, and together they began making short films together, including The G.I., Necrotize, and Lucky. Ben graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in the Animation program. He then formed Random Creatureface Films with Mike and Lance. Besides writing the script and working as lead Special Effects artist, Ben directed the Vampire and Slasher sequences of the film Summer School.
Marc Lougee Added to Horrorfest Lineup Director/ Producer of The Pit and The Pendulum
Marc Lougee has over 20 years of experience directing and supervising animated television series and commercials, including MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch, the CBC's What It's Like Being Alone, the BBC’s 3D CGI / live action kids show Ace Lightning, and Sid and Marty Krofft’s Land of the Lost.
In 2007, Marc was busy directing animation on the live action/CG animation series Dinosapien for CBBC / DiscoveryKids! Network. Aside from his series television projects, Lougee continues to direct and produce independent films, including the recent award-winning stop-motion short The Pit and The Pendulum, executive produced by the
legendary animation and visual effects pioneer, Ray Harryhausen.
Marc, and his film The Pit and The Pendulum will be participating in Horrorfest as part of our Indie Films programming.
