The winners for this contest have been selected and contacted by email. If you would like to make your own comments about Christmas Spirit, please feel free to do so. Thank you.

We have some tickets to see The Spirit - which opens on Christmas Day. The tickets are good at any Kerasotes theater in the Denver Metro Area. We'll be selecting winners that convince us that due to their Christmas Spirit, they deserve the tickets. Post your applications as a response to this message to share with the world. We'll select winners from the responses in a very biased and random manner.

Good Luck and good fun!

BTW, The Spirit is rated PG-13. The passes are good for any screening from December 29th - through the run of the engagement. We'll start giving away tickets on the 29th.

All Right,

How do I tell the world about my Christmas Sprit? Well try this onefor sise. Every Christmas month I try to get into the celbration of things that usaly cheer me up. Thing's like listen to all kinds of christmas songs that you can imagine, from Alvin in the Chipmunks to Bing Crosby. Then I decorate a tree with lights and ornaments. Ornaments that I have collected over the years since i have been born. Then I bake up a storm of chritmas goodies from cokkies to pies and cakes of all difrent shapes a sizes. After that then I go on a drinking binge with my family and buddies to take the presure from work and other stress full situations that you don't want to deal with this time of the season. Then on Chritmas day or Eve witch ever you perfer we open presents like mad people and watch peoples faces when they get great gifts that you got for them and all the gifts they gave you. I cellbrate as much as I can before the New Year sarts. Then you can start all over again. So I say thats my in take on my Christmas Sprit. To the rest of you out there do whatever it is to make your Christmas be bright.

I try to embody the spirit of Christmas by having my son and I buy a present each year for a child in need. I have to tell you, though, it gets harder to find this service every year. When we started doing this, many years ago, usually you could find trees put up in malls or grocery stores that had names and ages of children with what they wanted for Christmas. We would pick a boy, close to my son's age, so that he could help pick the present. My belief was that it would help him to understand that not everyone has it as great as we do. But, I have to admit, we have been on the receiving end of that gift giving a couple of times ourselves. I do not think that my son has that sense of entitlement that you sometimes see. He is thankful for what he gets, and never complains.

Because I am a teacher, I have finally rested up after a few days off. Our out of state sone arrived Sat night and we saw a lot of flashing lights for that plane accident. It has been too bitterly cold to consider skiing and our daughter has brought her under two boys over each day for them to get to know Uncle B. The three adults went to see the Day the Earth Stood Still one day while I babysat. Another day we all went to our health spa for a swim. We had a prime rib dinner after church service and then on Christmas Day we have an Eggs Benedict brunch. All the grown kids come, and the two grandsons and we will get great grandma over too. The stockings have been filled by Santa. It is fun to all be together.

My family and I went to the Burger King at 1050 W. Colfax (Kalamath and Colfax) on December 5, 2008 - for a bite to eat. We arrived, and ordered our meals by 6:45pm. My sister met us there (in her vehicle), and parked in front of the Starbucks. We decided to walk down the street at 7pm - to take our children to see the Parade of Lights. When we returned (at around 9:20 pm), we found that several cars had been, and were being towed (one after the other). My car was one of the cars that had already been towed (by Lyons Towing). But my sister's car was still there. When I asked one of the Tow Truck drivers where my car was, he told me to call the number on the sign (which was high up - on the side of the building - where nobody would typically look). The sign read "Unauthorized Vehicles Will Be Towed". It didn't give any type of time limit or anything. I looked around, and happened to notice that there was a Security Guard on his cell phone. It appeared to me that he was calling into Lyons Towing, as he was walking along checking license plates on all of the cars. One person that I spoke with said that they were sitting inside of the Starbucks when their car was towed. They told me that they had asked the Lyons Tow truck driver to drop their car, and that he refused. Two other couples that I spoke with - said that their wallets were in their cars, and that they were told (when they called Lyons Towing) that if they wanted to get their wallets (to pay the bill - to have Lyons Towing release their vehicle from their Tow Yard), that they would have to pay $60.00. When I called Lyons Towing, I was told that if I wanted my car - I would have to pay $240.00 CASH to get it back. My sister drove us to Lakewood (to my mom's house - 20 minutes away) to get the $240.00 that Lyons Towing said that we would have to pay - to get my car back. After this, we drove straight down to the Lyons Towing yard at 4300 Elati. When we arrived at around 10:30pm - we saw several tow trucks out along the road - waiting to take a bunch of the cars into the yard. Of course, none of them were mine. We must've seen at least 20 cars being brought in - as we stood there. The same people that I had seen and talked to at the Burger King were there with their mother - who had called the Denver Police to complain about the $60 charge to get their wallets. Before the Denver Police arrived, I had asked a Lyons Towing employee (at least 6 times) where my car was. I was told that my car "was on the way". We continued to wait for over 30 minutes, and my car still had not arrived. Eventually, I asked a Denver Police Officer to ask them where my car was. He was told that the tow truck was in route, and would be there in 10 minutes. 20 more minutes had passed. And it wasn't until the Denver Police asked Lyons Towing at least 3 more times - that my car finally arrived at the tow yard (at Midnight). Supposedly - the tow truck that took my car - had broken down. And when another tow truck was sent to get my car, that driver supposedly had to stop for gas. As quickly as we were seeing the cars being towed from the Burger King Parking Lot, I wouldn't be surprised if Lyons Towing wasn't taking all of the cars to another Lot somewhere, and then coming back for more cars - which I find hard to believe isn't illegal. And why would it take them 3 hours (or more) to get my car to the tow yard (13 miles away) - regardless if they broke down, stopped for gas, or not? I asked the Lyons Towing employee for a receipt as I was paying them - to which they refused to give me. And it wasn't until I asked the Denver Police for assistance, that the Lyons Towing employee decided to write out a receipt. I am also curious as to why Lyons Towing was having everyone pay $240 cash to their employees (out on the side of the road) - instead of going into some sort of an office. My car was not technically impounded - but rather picked up from Burger King, and taken to the tow yard (after 3 hours), and then dropped on the side of a public street - where we were waiting outside of the tow yard. But they still demanded the $240 CASH. I have sent my complaint to ALL of the News Channels, Tom Martino, the BBB, and the PUC. It appears that my complaint is just going to be brushed under the rug.

It has taken me a couple of weeks to try and get over this issue. And after paying my sister back - and all of my monthly bills - I took the last of the remaining dollars from my paycheck - to get gifts for my 4 children, and wife. It really wasn't much, and they seemed to understand. I could really use the stress relief of a FREE movie to end the 2008 year.

Christmas Spirit?

Seeing the Spirit would lift my spirits, but that's more about the comic book geek in me than the holiday - Oh, I know!
DH and I trimmed our tree with our Hallmark and WB Studio store ornaments - lots of Superman, Batman, some Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Catwoman...even a Hulk and a Spidey or two! The Clark Kent/Superman rotating in the phone booth drives our cats crazy - now that's Christmas Spirit at our house!

And if we can go see it today, we'll get away from my family sooner, which will make my DH's spirits soar!

In the spirit of Christmas, it is better to give than to receive, so I hope you will give the tickets I might have won to someone else, even though my son and I would love to see the Spirit. We'll manage to see the movie somehow.

Wow I loved those comics as a kid! Can't say I'm an action hero, but we're done with shopping, hiding gifts, wrapping gifts, baking cookies, playing Santa and surviving three hyped up little boys. Now that it's done I can say it was a pretty good Christmas. We have each other and we had something to open up under the tree. Merry Christmas, everyone!

I'll tell you a little about my Christmas Spirit and how I embrace the spirit others show.

I retired form our church choir a few years ago. This year I was asked to join a group to sing back up for the children's choir as the early (Chrildren's) Mass. I eagerly said YES although we had planned to attend a later mass.

Last week I joined with others from our parrish to set up our basement for a food basket give-away, to provide a Christmas for those who are less fortunate. I returned the next day to participate in the give-away event.

Enough about me. I was filled with more spirit on Christmas when I read about the Miami Heat player, Dwayne Wade, buying a house for Florida family who lost their home in a fire earlier in the week. I would love to see that generosity get as much publicity as the bad and violent actions of other professional athletes. Mr. Wade showed the true spirit of giving...expecting nothing in return. THAT is the Christmas spirit.

wow...
I have nothing to complain about. Even with troubles, we are blessed...
To the tow guy... you have my sypathy... good luck in the new year.I think the tickets should go to the guy with the "tow" trouble. The reason I say this is, You are giving and I think he needs a little pick me up.
I do not see in his letter that he embraces the "SPIRIT", but you guys do.

We embrace the spirit by teaching "giving as a way of life" in our family. We do not give one time a year, we have the children do it all year long...The homeless, the poor, the people on the side of the road..
"But by the grace of God, there goes "I"...

The spirit of Christmas for me is spending time with family and friends and enjoying the fellowship and expressions of love and caring for each other with much laughter, fun, food, and hugs.

There have been lots of reports on TV and in the newspapers about these towing guys. You'll see at the following link what can be legally done, short of writing a complaint to the PUC about them.

My husband was a police officer for 35 years and retired 4 years ago, so the spirit of Christmas to us is the following. For years he worked holidays and nights and the kids and I just accepted that our holidays were celebrated when he was home. Not nearly as dangerous or long as the soldiers families have endured, but Christmas was always about the family being together. Today we have 5 grandchildren and fill our home with over 25 family and extended family (and occasionaly friends of someone's that hasn't family here) and we celebrate with great gusto. I complain constantly about being the only one in the kitchen, some family members argue about anything, my husband says he wishes the holidays were over, and no one is ever perfect enough for the family picture that we all carry in our heads. I have to have a tree in everyroom - then I can complain that no one helps me decorate! I have to make every family receipe that my mother made - and complain that no one eats enough! And when the little ones argue or exclude one of the 5 or act like a brat - their parents are horrified, the rest of the family laughs and the grandparents side with the kids!! All of this makes for the spirit of Christmas - the good and the awful - because when it comes down to it - Christmas is famiy and forgiveness and love.
