Will you be holding a Balcony Contest again this year? And, how are you and/or the hotel handling Atrium requests?

Yes, I am hoping to enter the contest this year, but I am hoping to do two balcony's, connecting mine to the persons's next to me, as we are going together as a group. We've been working on our idea for a month already, trying to come up with something we think will be totally awesome, after seeing the neat ones from last year. We didn't enter last year, and I'd like to know details about what is allowed to attached our decorations, and what is not allowed, as well if there are size limitiations or anything because that will figure in how we place our decorations. And again, we are wanting to enter 2 balcony's but only as one entry, so we want to know if that will be allowed. The sooner we can get these details the better, because we are working hard on this project and it does require quite a bit of planning ahead.

I go to the convention every year, this last year I also attended the HauntCon convention at the same hotel. They had a balcony decorating contest and we planned lots of great ideas. We got there and hung everything up on the balcony. Shortly thereafter we got a message from the front desk saying we needed to remove the items hanging from or in front of the pipe running along the top front of our balcony as it is for the sprinkler system and if needed Security would be sent to be sure we complied. We were so disappointed but took down everything attached to that pipe. For what its worth later we saw several balconies with elaborate displays hanging from that same pipe and they were not taken down for the several days we were there so I dont know if you push your luck maybe you can get away with it. I would just have a backup plan in case they make you. Happy Decorating!

Yes, we will once again be hosting the BALCONY CHALLENGE contest. If you want to enter two balconies as one entry, you can do that. I will be posting the rules (same as last year, pretty much) online soon.
As to the pipe in question. I will have to go over to the Marriott and see what you mean. We didn't hear anything from the hotel about any problems they had, but maybe noone connected to the pipe.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a balcony contest this year 2008? And if so where might I find the rules?

I heard that the hotel is going to charge an extra fee for balcony rooms this year. Something like $40 extra.
Can anyone confirm this?

Hi: There is no additional charge for a balcony room. They will not guarantee you a balcony room, but the folks at the Marriott try really hard to accommodate you. Please check under the section titled "Balcony Challenge" The rules for the Challenge are there as well as the dimensions of the balconies. If you have any questions, please let me know. We actually have some great prizes and surprizes for those winning the challenge.

As for getting a room with a balcony. I called the Marriott today and it turns out you can only reserve one of those rooms the day before your stay ...bummer .

Hello, I noticed the theme for the balcony contest is AvPR. If your balcony is not this theme, is it not eligible to win?
For future reference, it might be a good idea to mention the balcony theme maybe a month or two ahead of time? I know last year we took a few weeks to work on it, and this year we've taken a couple of months to put together. So, all the effort we've put into it for this year, we don't plan on changing it to fit the theme.
