Steven L. Fawcette was born April 13, 1956 in New York City, N.Y. The only child of Richard and Virginia Fawcette, he was raised in Westport, CT where he attended public school. After graduation from Staples High School in 1974, he attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL and attained degrees in Communications and Psychology. His first work experience was with a major advertising agency in New York where he was employed as a copywriter and junior account executive. He later joined a banking software company in Maitland, FL, whereupon he not only worked as a technical writer, but also learned software programming and computer system design. In 1983, he was hired by a major defense contractor in Orlando, FL to write technical and cost proposals for various military programs directly for the Department of Defense, which required him to obtain a top secret clearance with the U.S. Government. He started his own gaming software company in 1991, working with numerous Native American tribes across the country in support of their fledgling casino operations, which had recently been granted by the passage of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The profitable company was sold seven years later to an international banking concern. During his professional writing career, Mr. Fawcette always held a fascination with creative writing and penned many articles and short stories for various publications and newspapers. In 1984, he was selected from a group of more than 800 authors to write a series of mystery novels for a division of Random House. These novels were unique in that they were left without resolution and clues were given to allow readers to win a $10,000 cash prize if they could solve the mystery. These books have become collector’s items and are still sold today on internet websites such as Amazon.com. In 1999, Mr. Fawcette began to formulate the concept of a grand apocalyptic science-fiction saga which he entitled “The Archangels of Dreamland”. It is the first in a planned series of seven novels, with the sequel “Archangels II: The Grigori” due for a published release in May, 2008. The novel has received very positive reviews from The NY Times Book Review, Kirkus, Publisher’s Weekly and Library Journal to name a few. It also won the award for best Action-Adventure novel of 2006 by the North American Booksellers Exchange. The story is slated to become a major motion picture and is currently in pre-production. The author is a father of three and lives in Littleton with his significant other, Eva. |
