From the studio that brought you "Shrek," "Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda"comes "HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON." Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges him and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.
Our Official StarFest Videographer, Phil Wortham, put together this great little teaser video for the convention from some footage he shot last year. It is giving me goosebumps just thinking about the show!
We have been processing memberships and emailing them out to people this week. We are doing a postcard mailing for the show and they should arrive at your doorstep next week. The flyers and posters are set to arrive at the ticket outlets (hopefully) in time for this weekend. The tickets should be going on sale at King Soopers soon.
Just so you know, Summer Glau told her agent that she only wanted to attend one science fiction convention this year… StarFest is that one convention.

In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document…until now.
Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where – mysteriously since the 1960s – a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.
Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.
Using never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film, The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.
This film is rated PG-13. You can play our quiz/contest at our quiz page to win a copy of the film.

Jed Rowen is very excited to be attending his fourth Horrorfest. Recent Horrorfests have screened Jed’s two other fan-favorite films, Zombie Farm and Attitude for Destruction. This year, Jed will be starring in the 2010 Horrorfest world premiere screening of Dahmer vs. Gacy!! Jed is so proud to be a part of this ultra-absurdist, brilliant film, and takes his hat off to all of the cast and crew in making this perhaps his best movie to date.
In recognition of his nearly 80 film credits, Jed was recently awarded the Golden Halo Film Achievement Award by the Southern California Motion Picture Council this last December in Los Angeles. Jed was also the subject of an article in the Sept. 2009 edition of The Atlantic entitled: Inbred Jed: The Strenuous Life of a B-Movie Zombie, recounting his many zombie roles and experiences as a cult film actor.
Other recent highlights include the premiere of 300 LBS. (a spoof of the blockbuster 300), in which Jed played the role of Xerxes to a packed house at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Jed can also be seen in the drama D.C. Sniper, released worldwide this past March.
Please look for Jed at the screening of Dahmer vs. Gacy on Friday night, the 16th. Jed’s band, Rogue Agent, composed the theme song to the film, which plays during the end credit crawl. He would love to hear what you think of both the movie and the theme song during the Q&A panel after the screening.
In 1995 Garrett Wang became the ‘fresh faced’ ensign on Star Trek: Voyager, a role that kept him lost in space until 2001. Playing Harry a young Star Fleet graduate (who played a mean clarinet, by the way), he was often the butt of jokes from his more seasoned shipmates. This was perhaps the perfect role for Wang at the time, because prior to his Trek duties, he really hadn’t done a whole lot of TV and Film work. Portraying the new guy on the job was a good fit.
Swept-up in the Star Trek renaissance near the turn of the century, Mr. Wang enjoyed the popular accolades of being picked as one of the E-Channel’s 20 Coolest Bachelors and one of People’s 50 Most Beautiful People – Both of which he says happened as a result of a reporter favorably noticing him in Denver at one of our Starcon conventions.
Returning to Star Trek in the 2007, Garrett starred in the movie Star Trek: Of Gods and Men, portraying the film’s bad guy Garan, to great notice and accolades. His portrayal as the villain was both a fun and enjoyable experience for Wang. Given his time-tested talent and perspective, it was also a good choice for his second Trek-go-round. No longer the fresh faced young man he was years earlier, Wang was now well prepared for the meatier and more complex part of Garan.
In 2009 Garrett finished work on two films; the comedy Why Am I Doing This? with fellow Star Trek actor Anthony Montgomery and the fantasy-drama film The Ride, by director Thomas Hyungkyun Kim.
Mr. Wang will have autograph and photo sessions throughout StarFest weekend. His Q&A session is currently scheduled for Sunday on our Main Events Stage.

Oscar winner MATT DAMON (The Bourne franchise, Invictus, The Informant!) and internationally lauded director PAUL GREENGRASS (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) re-team for their latest electrifying thriller in Green Zone. In the film, one soldier will go as far as it takes to uncover a conspiracy that extends throughout an unstable country erupting into war.
A lone warrior is left with one option: go off reservation to find the hidden truth.
It is 2003, and U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his team of inspectors have been dispatched by their commanders to find weapons believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but instead stumble upon an elaborate cover-up that subverts the purpose of their mission.
Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. At this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.
This film is rated R. You must be at least 17 years of age to attend this screening. For more information about the film visit the movie’s website.
